Condi For Vice President?

The Washington Times is reporting that Condoleezza Rice is positioning herself to be added to the republican ticket for 2012. Apparently, she is going to fill the missing foreign policy piece among the candidates.

This is exciting news, because we really like Condoleezza Rice, but this authors enthusiasm and food analogies are making us want to be against the whole idea.

Being A Convert vs. Not Being A Convert (or Is Everyone A Convert?)

We've been writing an advice column for the Deseret News / Mormon Times for the past few weeks and recently we've been getting a lot of questions from readers about being a convert to a religion vs. being born and raised in that religion.

It's interesting, the comments range from:

A. I wish I were a convert, because then, I would have a real testimony, not just something that was forced on me

B. Why didn't I have the chance to know about this church when I was young, it would have made life so much easier having clear direction. Does God not love me as much?

C. I love the church I go to now, but I wish I joined later in life so I could sow my wild oats and then settle down and live a clean/virtuous life.

Pretty wide range. We paraphrased obviously, but you get the gist. We have our own opinions about each of these sentiments but...

What are your thoughts? How would you respond?

PR Tips For The Kardashian Family

As someone who knows next to nothing about PR, we just want to let the Kardashian family know that they should do EVERYTHING they can to separate themselves from the disaster that Kim's divorce is turning out to be.

Actually let me rephrase that, it's not a disaster, cause as a whole, we don't think people care very much. But we're sitting here thinking about it and we think that you (the Kardashian family) should do the following things:

1. Distance yourself from Kim, keep pumping the story that Kris Jenner told on The View, "I had no idea, I mean when she told me (she was getting a divorce) I cried, and Kim just asked me to understand but ultimately I had no idea, I have no details about anything, in fact I don't know who Kris Humphries is, I didn't even know Kim was married, I know nothing"

2. For help with #1 (ie. Distancing yourself from Kim) call Reggie Bush. He figured out how to do that reaaaaal quick.

3. Figure out how to get yourselves off of these gay marriage ads. They're not directly targeting you guys, but they kind of are.

WHEW ran out of steam, proof that we don't actually care.

Bottom line, it's really funny/sad that the marriage lasted for 72 days, and that's all we have to say about that.

In the last post that we wrote, we used the phrase, "exact revenge", as we were typing it, we were unsure if we were using the saying correctly. After googling it, we found out that we were correct. So anyone who was thinking that it's "enact revenge" or "extract revenge"...it's not.

Television Show Review: REVENGE

One of our favorite pastimes is finding really bad shows (ie. bad acting, unbelievable plots lines, actors using accents that they haven't mastered yet, sounds of high heels on wood when the actor is obviously walking on carpeted floors etc) that are actually good.

Revenge is one of those shows.

In a nutshell, this show is about a girl who's father was killed because this group of rich people in the Hampton's (for whatever reason) set him up to look like a terrorist. The girl, Emily Thorne (formerly Amanda Clarke), is now 15 years older with a new name and a lot of money and has come to the Hampton's to exact revenge on all of these people.

What makes it good: Every episode something happens, kind of like on the O.C. Someone is always dying or losing all of their money thanks to Emily Thorne's plans, and Emily never gets caught! Also, whenever she succeeds, or is about to succeed, she makes this face:

The Downside: These types of plot twists every episode are unsustainable. For example, we remember in college when the O.C. was what everyone was watching every Thursday night, 5 months later, it's like "Who is the world is Marissa Cooper?" and if you could answer that question it was really embarrassing. Our advice to Revenge? Take some tips from Dawson's Creek, they didn't have Joey and Dawson kiss until the very end of season 1, and so it kept us watching ...at least until Season 2 episode 1. haha. jk what?

We could have a lot more thoughts about this show but we're running out of steam.

Last year we were in a play called "Home" by Samm Art-Williams. It was this crazy play that ended up being awesome, but at one point we had a line where we said, "Black gabardine pants pegged at the ankles". We'd never seen or heard the word gabardine before in our entire lives, so it was kind of funny to come acrossT it while randomly clicking on a Nordstrom ad in our email inbox.

We're not sure that we can think of a show that is better than 'Dance Mom's'. It literally has everything you could want in a show. The lady who owns the 'Abby Lee Dance Studio' is this woman you could never imagine being a dancer, the moms are obviously trying to re-live their dreams through their children, and the kids are amazing dancers (except for this one kid named Vivee).

My Little Sister Has A Great Twitter; All Star Weekend

Rookie Blue; Weirdest Kissing Scene We've Ever Seen

So.................

Did you guys watch the most recent episode of Rookie Blue?

Basically what happens is that 3 of the rookies (McNally, Epstein, and Nash) go undercover to find drugs and whatever else in Canadian ~~gang land~~ "gang land".

While undercover McNally runs into this guy that she's in love with (another undercover cop named Swareck -- we will never google how to spell his name)

ok so long story short they start kissing but it's like not kissing it's this weird moving and looking at each other and then like a fast shirt rip and then a pick up and then another look at each other and it's just soo weird.

Anyway, it was on the most recent episode of the show, we couldn't find a clip of it, but these are the two characters that have the weird kiss:

Two accounts that we want to highlight today are "FirstWorldPains" and the "Oldspice" account. Both are really funny in their own ways.

FirstWorldPains is an account that tweets things that someone in a first world country would complain about. Here are some tweets:

The Skulls: Movie Quotes;

"Direct question, direct answer: Are you a skull?"

This is one of the best lines in the movie The Skulls. If you haven't seen this film, it's definitely worth it to see it. It's a movie where Pacey from Dawsons creek plays this poor guy who goes to Yale and gets involved with a secret society. He's got a reporter friend (school newspaper, in reality they are no big deal but the movie makes it seem like he works for CNN) who is all interested in the Skulls and suspects that Pacey has been asked to be a member of the exclusive group. Anyway, at one point the reporter friend asks him the above question.

We think it's especially legit because his friend is probably thinking "enough with the nonsense, I don't care about your mush, are you a skull or not?" That's how we've been feeling with a lot of things recently.

Dear Yoguees/Everyone,

We wish we could find the interview where Wentworth Miller says "Brava" to Ellen Degeneres instead of Bravo, but we just aren't sure where it would be. But basically she says something to him and he says in a very slow pretentious way "Brava". Actually he says it twice "Brava, Brava"

ANDDDD it sounds so annoying! Just say "Bravo", most people don't speak Italian and won't judge you for not having gender agreement. Trust me it's not worth it. So you have two options:

1. Say Bravo - and have people be like "wow I did a really good job with this thing, or else maybe this person is being sarcastic but actually I don't care cause I already forgot what was happening"

or

2. Say Brava - and have people think "what is Brava?" "why are you saying it like that?" "Did you say Bra? or lava?" "I don't get it" "what do you mean?" "why are you talking with that voice?" "why are you mentioning to me that you went to Princeton?" "Why are you wearing a blazer in our government class?" The list goes on.

There's no need to say Brava. Ever.

Major Brain Freeze

Dear Yoguees,

Actually, after we titled this post we realized that a "Brain Freeze" is when you drink something cold too fast, and then you get that sharp headache. It's NOT when you have a blog that you haven't written on for 56 weeks because you can't think of anything to say. Still, we now feel a connection to the title "Major Brain Freeze" and so we're going to keep it.

A couple thoughts:

1. Kim Kardashian's Wedding - We're not sure how we feel about this whole thing. Actually we are completely sure. Even though everything probably cost 1 billion dollars and they're probably a great family, we didn't like Kim's head piece and so it ruined the whole thing for us. But this People magazine with her on the cover is selling really well, check out the ~~boring~~ article here.

1a. Speaking of Kim Kardashian - We must get a boyfriend, and we must get our picture taken with him exactly like this photo of Kim and Reggie.

2. Bad Words - We never swear. But we've made the executive decision that if a script calls for bad language use, we're just going to do it, and say it, and hate ourselves later for it. The show must go on.

3. WP's / WPJ's - There's nothing really to say here. Stiff arm. Big time.

4. GQ Magazine - We read an edition (is that the right word?) of this magazine at the gym the other day and is has skyrocketed to our top favorite magazines list. Unlike a lot of other magazines these days with articles that are like "100 Ways To Be More Inappropriate Tomorrow Than You Were Today!!!!" These articles are actually really funny and informational. Most of the writers use a conversational tone, that is really easy and fun to read, and the humor is right up our alley. Way to go GQ. Needs Improvement: Cosmopolitan

4a. Cosmopolitan Magazine Revisited - To be fair, we just took this quiz: Do You Make A Fabulous First Impression? and scored really well:

5. Marriage - Many of our college friends are getting married and instead of feeling like our lives are over we are too preoccupied by the number of spiders we've seen in our room over the last 2 days to care.

So these are the top 5 things that have been on our mind for the past half an hour or so. Some honorable mentions would be 1. Hurricane Irene 2. Mila Kunis 3. Essence Magazine and 4. Rick Perry.

There are a lot of articles that have been written about how unsuspecting teenagers and adults (think Anthony Weiner) can get themselves into a bind when it comes to social media. One of our friends recently told us a story where a Dad was using his wall to search for things. So brutal right?

So most of us aren't in that bad of a state, but we can all use reminders now and then. So here is a reminder of some of the most important things to click on while using facebook.

Unfriend - Probably the most important option on all of facebook. This button is the social media equivalent of "getting the dirt off your shoulder". YogueIN suggests you use this button as generously as you can. Don't be stingy with it.

uses: break ups, girl fights, being too creepy with someone elses page, mentally just not wanting to be linked to someone, cleaning up your social contacts

X - This button allows you to close any and all pictures.

uses: closing pictures of your ex with his/her new girlfriend/boyfriend, closing pictures of friends taking pictures of themselves in the bathroom mirror, closing the millionth baby picture, closing pictures of those dumb birthday/tag me in this note/tag yourself in this if.../the drama queen/the jock etc etc etc etc etc. The list literally goes on forever. Be so grateful for this X.

Leave This Conversation - This one we used for the first time today. This button allows you to exit any "reply all" type message situation on fb.

uses: group conversations regarding any type of event planning (wedding showers, baby showers, a group looking for a bridesmaid dress, really anything that it will kill you to receive more than one message about. No one likes being tricked and thinking they've got a cool message from someone and then it starts out "Hey Guys! So I was thinking . . ."

Lone Survivor Revisited

We did a really bad job with the last post, but we've just been having so many thoughts about Navy Seals recently. According to this book and to everything we've ever heard said about Navy Seals, they are highly trained individuals with unmatched courage, strength, dedication etc etc...and basically...we just don't want anymore of them to die, ever.

Is that so ridiculous?

We're not trying to say anything negative about their choice of career or anything, but the lives of Michael Murphy, Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz and many other servicemen and women who have died during the course of this decade long war, are valuable lives, really valuable, and we just wish that things could be different.

How can things be different?

Even if you don't have an immediate answer for the above question, if you are religious at all, just be mindful of the troops in your prayers, ask God to watch over them and to do what he can for their families.

Have you read the book Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell? We have and it's heartbreaking. We can't get it out of our mind.

In fact, we mentioned in our last post that yesterday was our younger sisters wedding. There was a moment when we were on the dance floor that we had the distinct thought "This is good to be dancing, it's helping me not to feel so sad about these young men and the war and the entire tragedy that was operation redwing"

Crazy right? We always get too attached to characters in books.

Making Friends In College; It's Tough; Especially When You're Using A Backpack

We're really sorry that we are posting this because it's about as inside, as inside jokes get. But this is so funny.

We will try to tell the story:

1. We played lacrosse in college and became really good friends with these two girls

2. We met this other girl (women's hockey player -- we can talk about that later) who was wearing a backpack with the straps tightened as much as they could be tightened.

2a. Additionally, her backpack had every single college hockey related logo on it that it could possible have.

2b. We can't be sure, but we're pretty sure the brand of the backpack was Jansport

3. This girl also had a midwestern accent

Or bathrooms in college were fine because we’re all friends and the same age and you can laugh and commiserate and be like “OMG how brutal was Professor X’s lecture today?!” “I know, right?!” But at work, like…you see these people all the time, and when you’re in your mid-twenties, most of the people you come across in there are more senior. Think about it – really let that marinate for a few minutes – and no doubt you’ll agree.

My first three years out of college this notion meant nothing to me. Sure, I’d come across the occasional VP and be forced to make awkward chit chat, but the people I worked with on a daily basis – my peers and my bosses – were all dudes. So, really I never had to deal with any brutal bathroom situations. About a year ago, though, I was reassigned to another account which is headed up by a woman. Didn’t think anything of it – I mean she’s cool; late 30s with a kid, nice and intelligent (surprising at a marketing agency) – but I don’t think I’d said more than “hi, my name is Meredith” to her since my first day. Whatevs, new friend.

Then, it happened... About two months into my new gig I walked into the bathroom and she was about to start washing her hands. I think “this is new for me” and try to avert her eyes and go about my business. BUT THEN SHE STARTS TALKING TO ME! And not like “hope you have a great weekend!” talking, but like, talking about this presentation I was working on and giving me edits to make. WHILE I’M TRYING TO PEE! I’m just sitting there, on the toilet, NOT peeing because 1) I got sidetracked thinking about work and 2) stage fright because like, what if I’m a loud pee-er? Is she going to judge the flow? Is she going to keep talking until I’m done, then we walk out together? If so, is she going to think I’m a really slow? Instantly, a new pet peeve was born: not so much girl bosses per se, but running into your girl boss in the bathroom. I think it’s inhumane to make anyone’s boss – the one person who gives you work and evaluates your performance – hear you pee (or poop, if you’re one of those equally brutal office poopers - more to come on that later). And, this didn’t just happen once. The woman got pregnant so she had to pee all the time. Honestly, there was one trimester in there during which I almost suggested she move her office into the handicap stall. I was given more assignments and feedback in the bathroom than in her office. It was brutal. But, then she had the kid and peaced out for a long time, so, situation resolved.

Wrong. Not resolved. WANT TO KNOW AN EVEN WORSE SCENARIO? When you and your girl boss are in a meeting that goes way too long and you had to pee starting at about the 5 minute mark. Everyone leaves the conference room and goes their separate ways. You really have to pee because you were an idiot and drank two iced coffees before 12:30 so you drop your notebook off at your desk and run to the communal office bathroom. What do you see? Your boss’ stupid white pants and shoes in stall #3. Shit. Like, she was on maternity leave forever so you had just sort of forgotten that this situation happens. Fine, you say, I’m a sprinter not a marathoner. Jump into stall #1 (so she can’t see your shoes), sit down and start peeing as fast as you possibly can because like, you just gotta get out of there before this gets awkward. Then, you may or may not realize that you’re actually having a pissing contest with your boss and then you sort of snort/chuckle at how unbelievably witty you are even when in distress BUT THEN you realize, crap, I’m still peeing, she’s still peeing, we’re all still peeing and at this point you’re more than likely going to have to deal with the awkward situation of finishing at the same time (and not in the cool way) and walking out of the stall and being like “oh….I…I didn’t realize that was you” (even though you did) and then you’re back to what if she judges how you pee? She’s a girl, girls judge everything. So, you decide not to completely empty your tank and you cut off but SHE cuts off at the exact same time but luckily you’re wearing a dress and she’s in stupid white pants so you have a much easier exit so all you gotta do is wash your hands like the wind but then you hear a sound, what’s that sound from stall #3? OH MY GOODNESS NO NO SHE’S CHANGING HER TAMPON RUN RUN GO GO ABORT so you rush out and wash your hands as fast as you can and get out of there but as you open the door you can’t help but wonder how quickly you get your period back after you have a kid? Maybe this is her first period since her baby and THAT’S why she wasn’t in all that awesome of a mood when you were in her office earlier but also does she need to use a bigger size tampon now that that thing has had 2 kids? Now that she’s not pregnant and we spend so much time together like, are our cycles going to sync up? I mean….probably….right?

Two things that I have learned officially:

1. If you have a female boss, use the bathroom at home.

2. An unexpected tampon appearance can make any situation significantly better, or significantly worse.

Dear KnewItAllAlong,

We don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but true/sincere friendships are very rare. Even the best of friends will take issue with something that you are doing and they will, without reservation, tell everyone they can about it. It's a fact of life, and it's very sad.

What we're about to say to you, some may consider to be bad advice, but we're going to say it anyway: If you find out that someone is gossiping about you, as far as we're concerned it's too late to really DO anything. Our dad uses this quotation ,"a man forced against his will, is of the same opinion still", we think this applies in this situation. Sitting this friend down and saying something along the lines of, "I heard you say x, y, and z, about me, and it really hurt my feelings", won't really get you anywhere. You may enjoy the satisfaction of watching him/her scramble for an excuse, but it won't change what he/she thinks.

To them you're still "annoying", "rude", "inconsiderate", "ugly", or whatever else he/she said about you when you weren't around.

So instead of using your energy to "fix" this current relationship, I would put your energy into finding new friends. Or better yet, finding a great boyfriend, becoming better at your job, keeping your room clean, serving others.

Best friends who gossip are the worst. Leave them, and don't look back.

Our "Hello Saturday" posts are among our favorite posts here on YogueIN. It gives us a chance to wrap up the week and just talk to about some of the thing that have been on our mind.

1. We spent some time looking at the 'Michelle Obama' section of the Huffington Post. Every article, regardless of what it was talking about, mentioned what she was wearing in some way. There was even a headline that was like "Millions of children die, Michelle Obama speaks to families in $29.99 gap dress". Okay so it didn't exactly say that, but you get the point.

What do you think Michelle Obama can do to make her voice be louder than her clothes?

2. We did a killer workout this morning with our good friend Moon. She is a zumba instructor and also evidently a murderer. Glad we made it out of that gym alive.

3. Baby girl Sofia was born and we love her so much. All the writers here at YogueIN have been very supportive of our need to include her on almost every post.

Dear Trapped,

It has been a while since I've dealt with any text message difficulties and I am happy to tell you that the solution to your problem is very simple. The first thing to remember is to never let anyone make you feel trapped in a text message conversation.

The great thing about text is that the person with whom you're speaking can't see you, and for all they know you A. Didn't get his/her text B. You're driving C. Someone came to the door D. You're dead. etc, etc, etc.

There are millions of ~~excuses~~ reasons as to why you can't respond, but the best and most important excuse is that you just didn't feel like it.

Now, I have a sister (and I know Gwen Wyntour subscribes to this belief) who feels that not responding to a text is rude. "Timmy, everyone knows that everyone always receives the texts as soon as it is sent, so it's just rude not to respond", so if that is the case, and you feel like it's rude, then you can wait until either one of you responds with simply: "haha" or " :)" or "lol". Waiting for any one of these responses will alleviate any guilt you may feel, because these words/abbr/symbols, when texted alone. mean that the conversation is officially dead/the worst.

It is now socially acceptable to put your phone down, and metaphorically walk away.

Anyway, we just found out the fashion magazine Vogue has a curvy and a black section. Being both curvy and black and semi-proficient in Italian, it has become our new life's ambition to be on the cover of either one of these magazines. Dartmouth College In Salt Lake City

We were wearing a Dartmouth sweatshirt this morning at the gym and here's what we learned:

1. 3 people at the gym have parents who worked at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center

2. 1 guy was born at Hitchcock, and was a pre-me, born 6 weeks before his due date, and the doctors were really scared. Then he lived in Boston but thinks about Hitchcock everyday because he's so grateful.

3. 2 people are "pretty sure" it's pronounced DartMOUTH like "don't talk with your mouth full" as opposed to "plymouth rock".

And the last thing we learned was that we didn't need to be wearing a sweatshirt in the middle of the summer if we didn't want to make small talk about it.

So serves us right.

With that said, Huntsman recently spoke out against the haters (Latter-day Saint haters, and Evangelical haters alike) and the quotation is kind of (emphasis on kind of) interesting:

Yesterday morning we woke up with a tingling on our lips, we didn't think very much of it, (the air is very dry out here, we are used to humid climates so our skin is always being weird)

This morning...the same tingly feeling PLUS our lips are looking a little swollen. (that's what she said)

Anyway, no, we won't tolerate the HSV-1 virus making itself manifest on our face.

We used to work for a PR firm that represented Norway as a client, so we wonder what's happening back at the office with regards to the recent bombing.

Here is an article that has pictures and goes into the detail (not really detail, cause it does not seem like the officials know very much) about the suspect, death toll, and damage to the city.

One thing that is interesting is that it says that this is the worst violence that Norway has seen since WWII.

The eastern United States is having a rough time right now. Not only are the temperatures in most of the major cities (Boston, Philly, Baltimore, New York etc) sprinting past the 100 degree mark, now New York papers are reporting that millions of gallons of raw sewage have been released into the Hudson River (sick).

So on the one hand the people are thinking "I'm so hot and I've got to cool off..." and on the other hand their thinking "I'll die before I ~~knowingly~~ swim in poopy water".

Bad Story, Good Headline Disease Spreads to Huffington Post Entertainment: "Funny Entourage Moment"

The Bad Story, Good Headline epidemic has unfortunately spread to the entertainment section of The Huffington Post. The disease, previously contained to the Huffington Post Living section, is one that will draw in any reader and then kill them with boredom as soon as they begin reading.

This particular article boasted "hilarious on camera magic" as the cast of the hit (read also: we've never seen it) HBO series Entourage discussed a day of shooting at a U2 concert.

After seeing words like "awkward" "funny" "memories" and "luck", we, like any other reader would have been, were tricked into clicking the play button on the clip.

At 5 minutes and 32 seconds, we were flipping through the channels and we found the show "Ultimate Hippo".

This is a documentary style show about how Hippos are the scariest/greatest animals in the world. This particular episode featured the power of a Hippos jaw. When the show ended we checked the elliptical timer: 43:13.
